British Embassy and Get Safe Online re-launch www.getsafeonline.id

British Embassy Jakarta and GET SAFE ONLINE, a UK-based NGO will re-launch www.getsafeonline.id – a website designed to help individuals and small businesses stay safe, secure and confident when using the internet. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Get Safe Online works closely with a number of governmental bodies and corporate initiatives across the globe to deliver impactful online safety awareness campaigns in several international regions.

The newly re-launched Get Safe Online website provides practical advice on how to protect yourself, your computers and mobiles device and your business against problems encountered online. It is continuously updated with news, tips and stories from around the world about the most frequently encountered online safety issues.

British Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Matthew Downing said:
“Cyber security has quickly become a leading area of cooperation in the UK–Indonesian relationship. We have a shared interest in maintaining a free, open, peaceful, and secure cyberspace. In the last few years, the UK has worked with the Indonesian government to improve cybersecurity regulations for the banking sector; secure the vital telemedicine sector; and deliver information security through exercises, trainings and outreach activities.”

The relaunch of www.getsafeonline.id is an important recent initiative, funded by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by GET SAFE ONLINE, which is designed to be impartial, practical and easy to follow. It is also available in Bahasa Indonesia. Staying safe online is extremely important as smartphones, computers and the internet are now such a fundamental part of modern life, that it’s difficult to imagine how we’d function without them.

From online banking and shopping, to email and social media, it’s more important than ever to take steps that can prevent cyber criminals getting hold of our accounts, data, and devices. I hope this newly relaunched website will help our Indonesian friends and colleagues stay safe and secure online”.

Tony Neate, CEO at Get Safe Online said:
“We have established a network of websites and local representation in 24 countries across the globe, namely Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Cook Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Fiji, Guyana, Jamaica, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa, Solomon Islands, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.

We are really pleased to be developing campaign efforts in Indonesia. Our services are fully funded by the UK government and don’t require any payment from those who use them, which is ideal. With such an active online audience here in Indonesia, the agenda is ambitious but, with the benefit of our experiences and successes, we know it’s achievable.

The response so far has been really positive, and we look forward to building partnerships with local organisations to do this more effectively.”
